Opeka, Maruševec and Klenovnik bring distinctive castle and estate landscapes to the Northern Zagorje story. They should not be treated as interchangeable ticketed attractions. Klenovnik is used as a hospital, while access to other estates and interiors needs checking with the relevant official operator. A good visit begins with respect for how a place functions today.

Further across Zagorje, Trakošćan and Veliki Tabor offer a different chapter in the region’s castle story. Plan them as wider-region excursions rather than describe them as stops on the Northern Zagorje board’s official route. Follow the museum links for current hours, tickets and access, and give each place enough time to be more than a photograph.
